Making A Turkish Ney From Scratch

I have been unable to post any videos for quite some time, the reasons behind that are fairly complex, but in time I'll probably make a video explaining whats new with me in the past year.

I was recently inspired by a friendly soul (you know who you are) to finish, edit and post this video after so long an absence...

So for now, I bring you my process and creation of a very ancient instrument that I have long been fascinated with since I discovered and have been inspired by the music of Omar Faruk Tekbiliek so many years ago...

My intention is to take you straight from the beautiful and lush nature where the materials to build this Turkish style Ney grow naturally and were harvested and show you the processes involved in creating this instrument.

Stay tuned till the end, to see how this Ney ended up sounding. I am not a professional Ney maker and I know mine doesn't sound anything like the professionals, but it's the best I could do with my limited knowledge.

It's incredibly rewarding to build your own instruments, especially when you have been the one to harvest the materials.

A big shout out to George Laskaridis for providing me with the absolutely fantastic Olive wood burl that became this instruments lip rest!
