10.000 km on the Road - Truso Valley & Juta Valley, Kazbegi - Georgia // Overland series Ep. 14

Check out Kazbegi church, Truso valley, Juta valley. After we did an oil change in Tbilisi.

In Tbilisi we started with an oil change at Tegeta motors afterwards we had to get the right brake pads in one of the many workshops in the city. We managed to do everything in one day and then left to the Caucasus mountains again. This time we went to the Kazbegi region. First stop was the Truso valley. The road to get there is part of the old military highways all around Kazbegi. The area is still very militarized as the border with Russia and south ossetia is just around the corner. Once we arrived we were stopped by the military next to Zakagori fortress. This is how far one can get without a permit. We turned around and camped in the middle of the valley. This valley is absolutely gorgeous with many mineral spings. There are huge calcareous sinter in a very bright orange color, contrasting with the green fields in spring. Close to the Zakagori fortress is a monastery and some mostly abandoned villages. The sheperds go up and down the valley with their flock.

We used the time to do the maintenance that’s necessary after being 10.000 km on the road. Kai did grease up all nipples and topped up the swivel housing cause it's leaking. The last 10.000km on the road have been smooth so far. And we didn't had much problems with the car!
We hiked to the Zakagori Fortress and enjoyed the views before leaving to Kazbegi as the weather was getting bad. In Kazbegi we camped in front of the Gergeti Trinity church and got the visit from the local horses. After a great dinner in the town we left for Juta valley, also part of the military highways. We stayed one night as we were in hurry to cross to Armenia.
