Despite the hype, is the Insta 360 X3 ready for prime time? That’s the question.
I’m a sucker for new/relatively new technology. I had a laptop back in the day when a laptop was at best a luggable. I had a Motorola “Brick” cell phone at a time when the cost of the phone and set-up was $2,200. Often there are issues with new tech.
I remember flying halfway across the country in the mid-80’s to do a demonstration of some software I’d just developed, relying solely on my luggable laptop to facilitate the demonstration. - When I turned it on in front of my audience, there was a puff of smoke from somewhere near the built-in power supply that ended any hope of a demonstration, and I was left taking the meeting attendees for a low-tech dinner.

. . .at the 21-minute mark, you’ll have seen that the Insta 360 hardware was having difficulty stitching the front and back images together, the result being a very odd capture of the coffee shop that was featured in that shot.
Such is the adventure with technology. Not to be deterred, we’re going to try this again. Enjoy!
The footage is going to be interspersed with GoPro footage for comparative purposes.
In my opinion, it’s really not a matter of one over the other, but rather two completely different uses and applications. And, two different stages of technology development.
