Adam Flowers and Red Wemette were discussing the beginnings of Las Vegas and Adam decided to give a little information about Guy McAfee that is told during the Vegas Crime Tour.
Guy McAfee was born in Winfield Kansas in 1888 was orphaned in early childhood. He became a firefighter in Los Angeles, CA and later served as the vice squad commander of the L.A. police department. Instead of busting up the underground speakeasys, he decided to operate and run them including the Clover Club on Sunset Strip.
He moved to Las Vegas where gambling was legal and purchased the Pair-O-Dice nightclub in 1939, renamed it 91Club and started calling highway 91 the Vegas Strip.
He later managed the El Rancho, co-founded the Pioneer Club in1942 and opened the Golden Nugget in October of 1946 which was 3 months before Benjamin Seigel opened the Flamingo.
