Learn how to make a Fleece Pom Pom Hat - Beginner's Sewing Tutorial

Faux fur pom pom tops this classic winter hat. Deep cuff means you can have up to four layers of fleece surrounding your head and ears. This is a great hat, a simple warm fleece hat pattern that has a some secret sauce to it in the way we gather the top and create a removeable pom pom. The faux fur pom pom DIY is included in this lesson. I show you two ways to make the pom pom and two ways to attach it with or without a pin. Use good quality polar fleece for this hat. The measurements might need to be adjusted due to the stretchiness of the fleece fabric you are using. Try on the hat before doing the top stitching so you can make any changes as needed.

In the video my fleece piece is an inch wider (23.5 inches) than the measurement of my tape measure going around my head (22.5 inches) and the length is a bit longer than that at 24 inches to make a nice size cuff and slightly baggy top. If you want a deep cuff and a baggier top you can add more to the depth.
