We traded polished marble mall floors for flip-flops and headed south to Playa Dominical, Costa Rica. The only thing more consistent than the surf is the rising tide of commercial services surrounding the Eco / Surf / Wellness tourism market.

We traveled down the Pacific Coast starting just South of Jaco (visiting Dr Randi), Playa Dominical (killer lil Surf town) and lastly, down to the Osa Peninsula to the eco-friendly, Drake Bay.

Follow along as we dodged mudholes in Dominical (visiting some cool spots) as well as seeing a white-faced monkeys (and toucans up close) in the Corcovado National Park.

Thx much my longtime local guide Allan (aka Mal Ride) who literally took us into the jungle, while he was barefoot!!!

Just think of all the commercial brands surrounding the tourist activities offered in Costa Rica. Ranging from surf brands, snorkeling, sunglasses, hiking, windsurfing, scuba diving, yoga / pilates, fishing, etc. There's too many to list once you really dig into all the products tourists bring or purchase here upon arrival.

This week's highlights include:

• Mama Toucans – The "Whole Foods of the jungle," offering organic everything with natural jungle charm.

• Rock Star Yoga – Where Laura's NYC experience meets rainforest roots. Laura's story (and her birthday dog, Muppet) is retail storytelling at its finest all while she supports local yoga gear suppliers.

• Handmade artisans – featuring local crafts and cultural connection ranging from: decor, to jewelry to bikinis all being sold on the BEACH!

• Head High Surf Shop – Think the movie Endless Summer meets today's modern surf apparel. Hopefully we'll see upcoming labels like Kelly Slaters - Outerknown logo hit the shores of CR one day soon.

• La Posada del Mar – Thanks to Miss Parker for connecting me to Toni (owner) as she truly offers the best-value for a place to stay in Dominical.

• Punta Marenco Lodge (Drake Bay) – this place is ideal for an eco-friendly (off-grid) solar-powered retreat.

Keep an eye out for their upcoming surf hostel (nearing completion) for those surfers looking for less crowded waves!
