President-elect Rodrigo Roa Duterte graced the Davao Philippine National Police (PNP) change of command ceremony at the Davao City Police Office on Friday, June 24.

The PNP’s City Director, PSSupt. Vicente Danao Jr., will be replaced by the incoming officer-in-charge (OIC), PSSupt. Michael John Dubria.

During his speech, the President-elect reiterated to use the law enforcement agency in fighting criminality.

“Mahirap ang Pilipinas that’s why you have to make this country peaceful. But I will encourage the mayors to help you,” Duterte said to the police officers.

He also warned those PNP personnel who are involved in illegal drug transactions to stop now.

“I do not need adulation. All that I ask of you is do your duty according to the law,” he said.

After his speech, President-elect Duterte announced the release of Marites Flor, the 38-year old Filipina who was kidnapped and held hostage by the Abu Sayyaf group (ASG) since September last year.

“’Yung kidnapping nila (the Abu Sayyaf) must stop. It has given us the bad image… We are able to negotiate for the release of Marites Flor,” Duterte said.

Flor expressed her appreciation to those who helped for her release.

“Sa ngayon, okay ako kasi nakauwi akong buhay at gusto ko lang magpasalamat sa mga tumulong – kay Sir Jess Dureza, kay Governor Sakur Tan, sa bagong elected president natin na si President Rodrigo Duterte,” Flor said.
