Hummanaya Blow Hole | Second largest blowhole in the world

Hummanya blowhole is the only one known blowhole in Sri Lanka it is the second largest blowhole in the world. Refers to the noise, “hoo”, that can be heard a distance away when the blowhole is active.

Hummanya blowhole is located in kudawella, in southern province. Hummanya is a natural blowhole, and caused when sea water rushes through a submerged carven and pushed upwards.

Hummanaya located in small fishing village, it’s surrounded by sea. We have to walk in a little distance to see to hummanya, there is a difficult road to walk. But it’s not too difficult because it is located in a beautiful environment.

There is an information center to get more information about the place and entrance ticket price will be Rs.250. it’s a lesser amount for all of us. Once you enter, there is a small hill to climb and finally you can see the beautiful blowhole.

You will not witness once you enter, but be patient it will take some time to come. The sea water flows underneath the shore and then comes out of this hole due to the pressure. The water fountain created by the geological feature shoots up every couple of minutes, depending on the nature of the sea, with the spray often reaching as high as 25m to 30m.
