Born in 1890 in Yorkshire Violet Firth was a well-known teenage poet. She later adopted the name Dion Fortune for her esoteric work and wrote about and taught the Western Mysteries from her twenties until her comparatively early death in 1947. This wouldn't have happened had she not enjoyed debating with Theosophists so much.

Initially she enjoyed violently disagreeing with them until their techniques and philosophy began to make sense to her. She had the wit to adopt these new ways of thinking and apply them in her work. Through them she understood where her own true path lay. She has been a constant and reliable source for more than a century and her books continue to sell well. Generations have the Theosophical Society to thank for persevering with her.

 Geraldine Beskin is a well-known esotericist and the owner of The Atlantis Bookshop in London.
