Hey loves!

Before we start: I did this entire video with lipstick on my teeth and I was too lazy to redo this video. Don't come for me yall.

My Hair Story

Welcome to the channel. I wanted to start this channel to document my natural hair journey and my battle with traction alopecia. My hair loss issues started well before YouTube was even a thing. My hair loss issues began when I was 11-years old when I accidentally set the right side of my hair on fire. I suffered 1st and 2nd degree burns to my scalp but I'll go in to more detail about this in another video. After this happened I was fortunate enough that my my hair did grow back enough to where it was not noticeably thinner on that side of my head. It really wasn't until I was around 22 when the problems began. I had gotten micro braids and kinki twist a few times and they always took my edges out. When this was no longer an option I began to get quick weaves. This was the beginning of the end. Fast forward to 2015, after I had my third son, my hair was so damaged from relaxers and harsh style methods I didn't know what to do with it. I delivered TJ in April 2015 and by July I noticed I was also suffer from postpartum shedding. At this time I decided to just cut my hair as short as possible and here we are today.

*********Types of Alopecia***************
1. Alopecia Totalis - Starts with small, round patches of hair loss and progresses until there is total scalp hair loss.
2. Alopecia Universalis - all body hair is lost
3. Androgentic Alopecia - also known as male-pattern baldness that occurs in both men and women.
4. Alopecia Areata - the sudden or sometimes unrecognized falling out of hair in patches or spots. The affected areas are usually lighter in color due to the poor blood supply to the area.
5. Diffuse Alopecia - also known as alopecia areata incognita, is a rare form of alopecia areata that affects primarily young females, and the hair loss on the head is radical and sudden.
6. Postpartum Alopecia - is temporary hair loss experienced at the end of a pregnancy. Very little normal hair loss occurs during pregnancy but the sudden and excessive shedding takes place from 3-9 months after delivery. The growth cycle generally returns to normal within a year after the baby is delivered.
7. Traction Alopecia - the most common balding disorder among young women and girls with highly textured hair. Baldness occurs when the hair is pulled tight meaning the hair is literally pulled out of the follicle, taking out the hair root and the bulb. Destroying the hair shaft may cause white bumps and pus, or scaling may occur around the affected area.
