On the afternoon of November 4, as a cable crane accurately hoisted a steel truss weighing approximately 215 tons over the Huajiang Gorge, the first steel truss girder of the Huajiang Gorge Bridge was successfully hoisted, marking that the construction of the world's tallest bridge has fully entered the steel truss Truss girder hoisting stage.
The Huajiang Grand Canyon, located on the Beipan River in Guizhou, has cliffs nearly a thousand meters high on both sides and is known as the "crack in the earth." The Huajiang Gorge Bridge under construction spans the deep canyon.
Construction of the bridge started in January 2022. The main span reaches an astonishing 1,420 meters and a height of 625 meters, equivalent to the height of a 223-story building. It is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in June 2025. After completion, it will become the new tallest bridge in the world.
Currently the world's tallest bridge, the Beipanjiang First Bridge, is just upstream of it and will give up its top spot.
