NABU Unboxing, Opening & Serial Troubleshooting (Reupload)

Описание к видео NABU Unboxing, Opening & Serial Troubleshooting (Reupload)

This video was originally released on March 5th 2023. Recently near the time of this edit/reupload it has come to light that a particular person featured multiple times in the original is a retro community serial grifter. I thought this video still may have some value but I wanted to remove all references to the person. This is that edit.

Well, I hesitated on ordering a NABU right when Adrian's video first came out back in November 2022 and because of that I didn't get around to getting mine until February 2023!

Seeing the frenzy of all of the online activity about bringing these machines back to life has been very exciting. Some very smart people are hacking away and we mere mortals will be able to benefit from their hacking!

My system, like all the others looked pretty much brand new. I was worried about the fan because of the trouble that others had but that ended up not being any trouble at all. What ended up being trouble was the dadgum RS-422/Serial stuff. After MUCH consternation, I finally bypassed the RS-422 circuitry of the NABU and went directly to the UART with an Arduino rigged up as a TTL adapter.

Keep your eyes open for a future video where I'll attempt to replace the U12 IC and see if that will restore the RS-422 port to working as expected.

I want to really extend some thanks out to awesome humans that really helped make this all possible.

‪@adriansdigitalbasement‬ For the original video that started the frenzy!
‪@DJSures‬ - For jumping right in and hacking away at this stuff to let us experience things!
‪@leo.binkowski‬ - For being an OG Nabu guy who had all kind of goodies to share and experiences as well.

‪@RudysRetroIntel‬ - For being super helpful and taking the lead in getting some great documentation together.
‪@ChrisMasto‬ - For sharing his TTL troubleshooting!

And last but not least... ‪@retroCombs‬ For putting up with all my DM's, and allowing me to try out his known working cable/adapter during all of this. He has awesome content. Check him out!

Take care and thanks for watching!

*I'll be redoing these markers ASAP*
