Masters of the Cuban Tres | César Hechavarría (El Lento) | Improvisation on Chan Chan

Here we have a beautiful and relaxed improvisation over the chords to Chan Chan. D minor - F - G minor and A7. This is also a good example of trying NOT to play when the master is playing. I was just blown away by El Lento and couldn't help but try to get in on the jam but if you have a chance to study with a master I recommend just letting them work. There are many cool things in this solo including chromatic ideas, pentatonic scales, a pink panther quote and of course chord substitution.

This was filmed in 2016 at the home of El Lento.
