Millions of websites just went dark after a major AWS outage hit some of the internet’s biggest names. Amazon.com, Prime Video, Perplexity AI, Canva, and more all went offline, leaving users around the world unable to access their favorite services. The outage began about 30 minutes ago and quickly spread across regions, impacting users in the United States and Europe alike. According to the AWS Health page, Amazon is aware of the widespread disruption and is actively working to resolve it. The company reported increased error rates and slowdowns for multiple AWS services, especially in the US-EAST-1 region. They also mentioned that support services like case creation through the AWS Support Center are affected. While Amazon hasn’t shared the exact cause, status updates point to a DNS resolution issue with the DynamoDB API endpoint. The impact has been massive. Epic Games confirmed on X that Fortnite players can’t log in, since the login system relies on AWS. Perplexity’s chat app is offline, and Canva users are experiencing major errors with image editing and other features. According to Downdetector, at least 15 major services, including Roblox, Hulu, Snapchat, Robinhood, and Grammarly, have all been hit. After about 45 minutes, some services began to recover, and AWS has now fully restored its systems. This outage is a reminder of just how much of the internet depends on AWS to keep running.
