Level up your Quilting Skills with this BONUS PROJECT made from HST's from the Pinwheel Cookie Quilt

Happy New Year, Quilty Friends! In this video, I show you how to make a bonus project with the cutaways from the pinwheel cookie quilt. I saved all of my cutaways and sewed them into half-square triangles. In the spirit of the Pinwheel Cookie Quilt, I decided to sew my units into pinwheels. My pinwheel finished at about 2 ¼ inches square. Although I used a pinwheel design, you can totally do something different. There are so many designs, like making zigzags and scrappy squares. I just wanted to make something that would look nice with my quilt. I saved a lot of time by not trimming my pinwheel blocks. I used a technique where I hid excess fabric in my seam. I will show you up close how to do that.

Ultimately, I decided to make my little quilt top into a pillow. It finished at about 19 square inches, and I didn’t need to add borders. I had more than enough background fabric left over to make a double-lined envelope back. The pillow is already quilted and on my sofa. I will share it with you in my next video.

It feels like it’s been forever since I’ve been able to post a video for my Perfect 5 Quilts series. I’ve been filming this video on and off for two weeks! I spent a lot of time with my family, and I hope you spent time doing what you love over the holidays. My family visited me from Kansas and North Carolina, and we did something together every day to make the most of our time together. If you pay attention, you will notice that I am wearing a different shirt at the beginning of the video than at the end. And you will notice that my scrappy batting is half complete at the beginning of my video than at the end. That’s because I forgot to film an introduction!
