There are three questions that we need to ask ourselves to communicate with impact. This is true whether you're preparing for an important meeting for a presentation for a phone call or even writing an email.

The first few questions are automatic. You'll be asking yourself these questions without needing to think about it. It's the third question that makes all the difference to what you say how you say it. And how people do you react to it.

So the first two questions are, what is it that I want this person to know? And what do I want them to do?

Know and do. So for example, in a job interview, what you want the person to know is that you're the right person for the job and what you want to do is to hire you. So everything that you say is guided by these questions.

The third question is much more important in determining your success. How do you want people to feel? If you just focus on what people know and do they may leave your meeting feeling uncertain, feeling demotivated or lacking interest.

However, if you focus on how you need them to feel you can change how you deliver your message, so that they leave your meeting feeling reassured feeling inspired or enthused about putting your ideas into action.
