Ensete superbum (Roxb.) Cheesman [Musa superba Roxb.]

Local names: Kallubaale (Kan.); Wild plantain (Eng.).

Description: A large herb, not stoloniferous, dying down after flowering; pseudostem up to 4 m high, swollen at base and gradually narrowed towards apex. Leaves up to 3.3 x 1 m, oblong; free petiole short. Spikes up to 1.3 m long, ultimately drooping; bracts maroon, orbicular. Flowers 20-30 to a bract. Berry oblong, trigonous, c. 7 cm long. Seeds subglobose, brown.
Not common.
