We use changes in light, color, and detail to separate our subject from the background.

We use the flexibility of masks in Lightroom to edit our subject and background separately. The trick while using masks to edit in Lightroom is to create changes in light, color, and detail to create depth, separating our subject from the background. But the another trick, for realistic results, is to not overdo it which could result in an unnatural look.
