Interflug Airlines Flight 67 was a scheduled international flight from Berlin Schönefeld Airport in Schönefeld, Brandenburg, German Democratic Republic (East Germany) to Vasil Levski Sofia Airport in Sofia, People's Republic of Bulgaria (Bulgaria), the plane had over 71 passengers on board with over 69% of passengers being East German and 2% being Bulgarian, and 1% being Romanian. All 79 people did not survive the crash.

The plane was an Soviet-built Tu-134, the plane only flew with Interflug since the '70s

The crew on board consists of 48 Y/O Captain Harald Oppert (1938-1986) he had 7,000 hours on the Tu-134. 55 Y/O First Officer Hauke "Franklin" Kesselman (1931-1986) he had over 8,000 hours on the Tu-134. 49 Y/O Navigator Heiner Eichwald (1937-1986) he had over 9,000 hours on the Tu-134. 50 Y/O Flight Engineer Stephen Schmetterling (1936-1986) he had over 10,000 hours on the Tu-134, and finally 27 Y/O Radio Operator Matz Umlauf (1959-1986) he had over 871 hours on the Tu-134 with 3 flight attendants being (56) Gabriela Honigsmann. (39) Fabienne Schmerling and (26) Maria Hellmuth.

On October 12, 1986, An Interflug Tu-134 was descending to land at the Bulgarian airport. On this day, the weather in Bulgaria was foggy and rainy. Meanwhile, Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 owned by the Air Forces of the National People's Army (East German Air Force) was on a training flight,with special permission,the fighter jet was allowed to fly into international airspace. Inside was 24 Y/O Trainee Meik Nussbaum and Captain 45 Y/O Gunnar Himmelblau.

The plane was currently in Serbia.The Captain told the Trainee to head back to East Berlin. Unknowingly, the trainee didn't turn, he continued to go straight.
When Flight 67 finished their landing checklist. With The Radio Operator speaking decent Bulgarian. The ATC alerted that they needed to ascend immediately. With the TCAS not on the Tupelov. The plane soon ascends. At approximately 6:12 PM Eastern European Summer Time. The MiG tail collided with the front fuselage of the Tu-134. Immediately the pilots soon ejected. Everyone died on the Tu-134 and the trainee and Captain survived. The trainee mistake. He was put into Administrative discharge and soon arrested and charged for the mistake.
