Listening to white noise increases alpha waves in the brain and decreases beta waves. Alpha waves are brain waves produced when you're focused or relaxed, while beta waves are produced when you're anxious.

Therefore, listening to the sound of rain increases alpha waves, which in turn calms the brain and contributes to a sense of well-being.
