Introduction to Mool Mantra
The Mool Mantra is the most important composition in Sikhism, which is reflected in the fact that it is the opening text of the Guru Granth Sahib. The first line of the #moolmantra is “Ik Onkar”, which means “There is only one God”. This symbolizes the importance of the belief in the oneness of God and the oneness of humanity (the belief that everyone is equal). The #ikonkar is an important symbol for Sikhs, reminding them of the oneness of God and the oneness of humanity (the belief that everyone is equal). It helps Sikhs to focus on Waheguru when praying and meditating.

Sikhism is about freedom and respecting all other religions and not forcing its beliefs on others.
Guru Nanak gave the Mool Mantra as the essence of the Sikh teachings.
To recite a mantra 108 times is said to help bring harmony with the vibrations of the universe.
Giani Sant Singh Maskeen was a Sikh scholar and theologian known for his expertise in Gurmat and Gurbani.

Sikhs frequently recite the Mool Mantra in public and private worship, including their morning prayers. This makes it easier for them to keep the name of God (Sat Naam) in mind, to help them to live in a way that is pleasing to God.

Sikhs believe that Waheguru is without gender or form. The language of the Mool Mantra reflects this by not saying ‘he’ or ‘his’. However, traditional English translations often refer to Waheguru as ‘he’, even if the Punjabi version does not.

Guru Nanak dev Ji gave the Mool Mantra as the essence of the Sikh teachings. Recently, while meditating on it, it dawned on me how interdependent the phrases of the Mool Mantra really are. For a long time, the Mool Mantra seemed to me a group of adjectives describing the experience of Divinity. But like a seed that breaks open to create roots – what I saw was that the Mool Mantra is not just a description. It defines a process through which we can become aware of the reality of the Divine inside us. Each line describes a state of consciousness. And understanding that state becomes a pre-requisite to developing an understanding of the state of consciousness described in the next line.

Guru Nanak prescribed three pillars of the Sikh way of life. Naam Japo, or keep the One God in your heart and in every breath. Kirat Karo, or work hard and live an honest life with high moral and spiritual values. Vand Chhako or share and consume - food, possessions, wealth, and talent, with the community.
