Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS)
-Rare and potentially fatal
-Immune-mediated, acute skin reaction triggered by certain classes of medications
-Anticonvulsants (lamotrigine), antibiotics especially sulfonamides, NSAIDs
S/S
-include nonspecific and flu-like symptoms
-followed by a burn-like rash and blistered lesions that often involve the mucous membranes
-Epidermal shedding occurs on the face, trunk, and palms, resulting in painful areas of exposed dermis and puts patients at risk for infections and fatal complications such as sepsis, multiple organ dysfunction
Interventions
-Identify and discontinue causative agent
-Supportive treatment at preventing skin infection, maintaining nutrition and hydration, managing pain
