2x Larry Bird MVC POY AJ Green Is A Flamethrower🔥| 2021-22 Season Highlights

University of Northern Iowa junior guard AJ Green was named the 2022 Larry Bird Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year.

This is the second time in three seasons that Green has earned this honor, becoming the first Panther to win the award multiple times. Only nine other players in MVC history have won two Larry Bird trophies.

Green led the MVC in scoring this season with 21.2 points per game and 30 or more points in four games. Green also shot 94.2% from the free-throw line, the best in the MVC, and also led the conference in three-pointers made.

SOPHOMORE (2019-20): Started all 31 games as a sophomore ... named the 2020 MVC Larry Bird Player of the Year ... First Team All-MVC ... MVC Scholar Athlete of the Year ... MVC First Team Scholar Athlete ... NABC All-District Team ... USBWA All-District Team...CoSIDA Academic All-District Team ... finished the season with 610 points, averaging 19.7 points per game ... shot 41.6 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from beyond the three point arc ... shot 91.7 percent (111-121) from the free throw line ... finished with 92 assists and averaging 3.0 rebounds per game ... scored a season-high 35 points against Bradley in the McLeod Center (1/4/20) making 7 of his 13 three point field goals and going 8-8 from the charity stripe ... downed 34 points at home against Drake (2/8/20) with 12 made field goals including six three-pointers.

FRESHMAN (2018-19): Started in all 34 games as a freshman and recorded the most points by a freshman in Panther history with 509, earning him MVC Freshman of the Year ... in addition to Freshman of the Year, Green made the MVC's All-Freshman Team and All-Newcomer Team, as well as was earned Third-Team All-Conference honors ... was voted MVC Newcomer of the Week on two separate occasions, Nov. 19 and Feb. 25 ... opened his UNI career with 16 points against Bemidji State (11/2) ... put up back-to-back 20+ point performances versus Penn Quakers (11/16) and Eastern Kentucky (11/17) with 21-points and 23-points ... played 31-minutes versus Old Dominion (11/23), notching seven boards in the process ... recorded a season high 27-points against Grand Canyon (12/19) after going 9-16 from field goal range and 5-8 from beyond the arc ... earned a season high nine rebounds versus Stony Brook (12/29) ... went a perfect 10-10 from the charity line against Valparaiso (1/19), aiding to his 25-point performance ... tallied 22-points the very next game versus Southern Illinois (1/23) ... put up three additional 20+ point performances in February, including 24-points against Bradley (2/2), 21-points at Evansville (2/17) and 22-points against Valparaiso (2/23) ... put on a great performance in the conference championship versus Bradley (3/10) as his 23-points earned him a spot on the MVC's All-Tournament Team.
