I am sitting alone on a small terrace overlooking a city built on hills, my laptop open in front of me. This time before the sun fully sets has become a habit—pushing my personal project forward, even just a little. It’s not work, and it’s not an obligation. I’m the only one who gets to decide whether I continue. And yet, I sat down again today.

Warm light spills out from inside, blending with the scattered lights of the houses below. Once I put on my headphones, the noise of the city fades away. On the screen is the code I left yesterday. Completion is still far off, but moving my hands means taking one more step.

I trace the flow, rename what feels wrong, and remove branches that no longer serve a purpose. The drink in my cup has already gone cold. The sky slowly shifts from blue to violet, and the terrace lights quietly turn on.

For a moment, I think about why I keep doing this. There’s no guarantee of results. No promise that anyone will notice. Still, if I don’t stop here, it connects to tomorrow’s me. I let out a short breath and move the cursor to the next line.

The tests fail—exactly as expected. I decide not to finish fixing it tonight and leave myself a note instead. “Start here next time.” That’s enough.

I take off my headphones and look out over the city. Night draws closer, and more lights appear. I close the laptop and stand up from the chair. Progress is slow, but it’s real. This terrace at dusk is proof of that.
