French citizens are voting, in the first round of a snap legislative elections. France is the closest it has ever been to having a far-right government since World War Two.

The anti-immigrant National Rally party is riding high in opinion polls.

The country's President Emmanuel Macron dissolved parliament.

He then called for this election after his centrist alliance was thrashed by the National Rally party in European elections.
