A resolution against socialism passed within the US House of Representatives last November. Together with all Republican members, almost half Democrats supported it.
Days later, the “democratic socialist” mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, met with Trump. Rather than criticising the resolution, he labelled it no more than “a difference in ideology” and chose instead to prioritise “the work at hand”. Trump took pleasure in the encounter.
It's no surprise. Liberals and Social Democrats exist to serve for capital, despite their talk about “reform”. Their role is covering up contradictions and encouraging class collaboration.
As the ruling class escalates its repression, it relies on the left wing of capital to absorb dissent, which both wings continue attacking socialism.
