Ahiohill Harvest Day 2024

A video of the Ahiohill Harvest Day 2024 which was in aid of ARC Cancer Support Centre and local charities.

The main highlight of the Ahiohill Harvest Day 2024 was the recreation of the silage equipment of the late Tim Sheehan. Serious work went into this tracing the silage gear from many counties in Ireland and the Ahiohill Harvest Day organisers are very grateful for the support they received from the owners of this equipment to allow it to be used for the memorial event.

Tim Sheehan was a serious Agricultural Contractor in Co Cork starting his contracting business in the mid 70’s and considered way ahead of his time. He died in February this year. May he rest in peace.

A few words on the late Tim Sheehan from Finbarr Sheehan ( Tim’s brother ) and Barry O’Driscoll

I recall 1974 / 75, Tim went pushing up silage for my uncle, John Kelleher. It was a Massey 175 with push off buck rake. Tim was 15 I think as my uncle drove in front of him on the road!! Therefore 50 years of silage 1975 to 2023.

First year or two was in partnership with Charlie Clarke, Chad bought a new Cat 910 and Leyland and Tim bought a David Brown 1410 on a New Holland 339 double chop. Tim built his first trailer either 76 or 77, I recall a trailer being painted in the shed when it was announced on the radio that Elvis died. That was Aug 77.

Area was mainly Templemartin, Newcestown, Ballinhassig, Innishannon, Kilnamartyra and all the way to Rocky Bay on the mouth of Cork Harbour where Tim cut silage for Kevin O' Leary

Built single axel 16' trailers every year or two.
With the JD 5820 40 to 45 acres per day was considered a good day. Always finished around 10.30pm to allow time for "refreshments" 🍻
