Australian Ken Rosewall (1934-) was the youngest Australian men's singles champion, winning the title in 1953 aged 18. He added another Australian title and one at the French and U. S. before turning pro in 1956. Rosewall was the top pro tennis player in the early 1960s, winning many tournaments. When open tennis arrived in 1968, Rosewall won the French Open. He then added a U. S. title and two Australian titles (in winning his last Australian title in 1972 aged 37 he became the oldest winner of the event). He never won Wimbledon, despite appearing in four finals. He retire in 1980.
