Analogue television switch-off in Hungary (2011-2013)

Hungarian analog terrestrial transmissions officially stopped on Thursday, 31 October 2013, after completing two phases that ended on 31 July and 31 October, respectively. Two years earlier, M1 stopped broadcasting on the VHF channel O1 on the Széchenyi Hill transmitter for economical reasons, since channels 1 and 1A were used for early experimental broadcasts and are no longer allocated since 1965. The main reason for this is that it is very difficult to provide the relative bandwidth necessary for the transmission of TV signals at low carrier frequencies. After the switch-off, 36 areas previously covered by the Széchenyi Hill transmitter couldn't receive terrestrial signals anymore, including Csolnok, due to geographical factors.
The phase 1 of Hungarian analogue television switch-off occured on 31 July 2013, including Budapest. The final phase of Hungarian analogue television switch-off occured on 31 October 2013, including Tokaj.
