In 2015, the UK had two versions of the Royal Shield 50p: the 4th Portrait (Ian Rank-Broadley) had a circulation mintage of 20,101,000, while the newer 5th Portrait (Jody Clark) saw a much larger circulation of 59,401,000. The 4th Portrait version was part of the standard yearly release, whereas the 5th Portrait was released as part of the definitive series for the year alongside other commemorative designs like the Battle of Britain 50p.
