This is part 1 of my capture of me and some friends playing through the disc-based release of New Super Luigi U on the Wii U. I'm player one (Luigi), Luke is player two (Blue Toad) and Peter is player three (Nabbit/Yellow Toad).

New Super Luigi U was originally released back in June as DLC for New Super Mario Bros. U. However, I decided to wait until August 25 to pick up the stand-alone disc version of the game because I prefer to own physical copies of games whenever possible. That green case is also cool and worth owning.

Ever since I first saw Mario is Missing for the SNES I've wanted Luigi to star in his own game (sadly, Mario is Missing was a crappy educational game and not a platformer. And while Luigi's Mansion was interesting, it wasn't a platformer either). I'm happy to see my dream finally realized with this game, although it doesn't feature a new world to explore, which is a little disappointing.

This game is crazy to say the least. The physics are different since Luigi now controls more like his Super Mario Bros. 2 and Lost Levels versions, and there is only a 100 second timer on each level. Since Mario is no longer playable, Nabbit has taken over as the fourth playable character and he is invincible to enemies (but not lava, pitfalls or poison water). However, Nabbit can't use power-ups and instead obtains 1-ups at the end of each level based on how many power-ups he collected.

New Super Luigi U is for sure much harder than all the prior New Super Mario Bros. games, but I don't think it matches the Lost Levels in terms of pure difficulty. But that's probably a good thing as I found the Lost Levels to be incredibly irritating at times. With this game I was at least laughing every time I died.

In this playthrough there will be a lot of deaths since this is our first time playing the game and multiplayer makes everything more chaotic (but more fun too). I thought about editing out some of the deaths on levels where we got stuck for a while, but I decided against it to show how challenging this game can be. I hope you don't get bored watching us die over and over again.

Also, we aren't bothering to collect every single Star Coin as we initially progress through the game, although we will occasionally go back to a level to grab a coin that we spotted. We'll grab the remaining Star Coins after we finish the initial playthrough of the main worlds so that we can unlock the Superstar Road world.

In this first part we started a new save file and completed Acorn Plains.

Recorded with the Hauppauge HD PVR and the Wii's component cables in native 720p resolution. We're using Wii Remotes.
