Somewhere over the Pacific Ocean, 10,000 feet above open water, a C-17 Globemaster III carries cargo unlike any standard military shipment.

Inside the cavernous bay, cameras capture riggers and supervisors moving fast, double-checking two boats strapped to launch rails. Each 41-foot vessel is wrapped in webbing and rigged with a Low Velocity Air Drop System, designed to guide their twenty-thousand-pound descent into the ocean below.

As the drop zone nears, the aircraft descends to low altitude, engines steadying for the run.

At the signal, the first vessel thunders down the rails and vanishes through the open ramp. The second follows seconds later, as the men line up behind it.

One by one, eleven operators step off the ramp, dropping through 700 feet of open air in pursuit of their craft.
