The Ultimate BMW iDrive Update Install Guide 2020.

Today I am going to update the iDrive software on my BMW M4. You will find that this same process is the same for all modern BMWs equipped with the iDrive infotainment system.

You will need a USB thumb drive formatted to fat32

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS.

STEP 1: Locate your VIN number.
STEP 2: Find out which iDrive update version you are currently running.
STEP 3: Format your USB thumb drive to fat32.
STEP 4: Go to BMW.com/update
STEP 5: Type in your VIN number to see if there is a update available for your car.
STEP 6: Download update .zip file.
STEP 7: Place update .zip file on your USB drive.
STEP 8: Plug USB thumb drive in the USB port in your car.
STEP 9: Go to system update on iDrive and update to the new firmware.
STEP 10: Turn off the car entirely and then restart the car.

Your iDrive system should now be updated to the latest firmware.
