Donald Trump has announced Israel and Hamas have “signed off “on the first phase of the Gaza peace plan in a major breakthrough following days of talks in Egypt.

“I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan. This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace,” he wrote on Truth Social.

“All Parties will be treated fairly!” he continued.

Donald Trump told reporters a Gaza ceasefire deal is “very close” after he was handed a handwritten note by Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a roundtable event at the White House.

The President was participating in the event in the State Dining Room when Mr Rubio could be seen writing out and passing Mr Trump a note as Attorney General Pam Bondi spoke to reporters.

Moments later, Mr Rubio stood up and walked over to Mr Trump, before whispering in his ear.

“I was just given a note by the Secretary of State saying we are close to a deal in the Middle East and they are going to need me pretty quickly,” Mr Trump told reporters.
