Saudi Arabia is pushing ahead with preparations for this year's Hajj following last week's deadly crane collapse.

Pilgrims are still pouring into the country despite the accident that killed 111 people last Friday. They said they are not afraid.

"Not at all, not at all. People, they are more enthusiastic after that incident because it was a natural calamity. It doesn't affect anyone," said Aly Mohamed, a pilgrim from Pakistan.

Over a million pilgrims have already gathered in Mecca and the number is expected to reach 2.2 million by next weekend.

Construction is evident all over the city as the Saudi government tries to accommodate the growing number of visitors.

High-tech systems have been introduced to monitor this year's pilgrimage.

"We applied the Nafez system. That is cameras placed on Phantom II helicopters to monitor the services, traffic and pilgrims everywhere. And another system Najm will follow up any problems while organizing and monitoring all the camps," said Osman Idris, border member of Hajj Organizing Institute.

Authorities will hire 12,000 guides to accompany the pilgrims this year, 10 percent more than normal.

Security has also been tightened with 1,300 policemen deployed around the Grand Mosque.

The continuous congestion and police checks have not dampened the spirits of the pilgrims.

"It feels great, a beautiful city with all the holy sites that make you forget any hardships," said Ibrahim Adawy, an Egyptian pilgrim.

To avoid any health hazards and be prepared for any accidents, the government is constructing nine new hospitals, adding to the 20 already in the city, to serve the pilgrims.
