👟Running Tip #1: Learn to run slow. The most common mistake most new runners make – they run too hard and too fast. Naturally, it leads them to overstrain, exhaustion, and sometimes even running injuries. In the beginning, try slow jogging or jogging with walking breaks. Remember: when you start out, it's absolutely normal to jog and have walking breaks.
👟Running Tip #2: Don’t progress your training more than 10% from week to week. That’s the mistake most beginner runners make. You may feel that you’re getting better and fitter, so you add more kilometers to your weekly regime and start running faster. But that often leads to burnout, overtraining, and injuries. So it's really, REALLY important to keep it simple, stick to your training for a while and not progress too fast.
👟Running Tip #3: Include strength training. Even though running is a great aerobic activity for improving your health, it’s not enough. If you want to become a stronger runner, you also need to do strength training and train your muscles. It will help you to avoid injuries and level up your health benefits.
👟Running Tip #4: Stay consistent. New runners are often really ambitious at the very beginning. Sometimes, they train too hard, which leads to exhaustion and reduced motivation. And then they quit running. So it's really important to find time for 2–3 running sessions that you can realistically do every week and stick to your regime. Running is a long-term game. So if you want to get the most out of it, try to find a regime that works for you and stay consistent with it.
👟Running Tip #5: Keep running fun! As human beings, we don’t stick to things if we don’t find them fun. So don't look at running too seriously! Make sure that every time you run outside and do your training, it's fun, enjoyable, and doesn’t feel like an annoying duty.
