In chapter 30 of To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout Finch narrates the events that took place after the Halloween pageant. Jem and Scout are walking home when they feel the presence of someone following them. Suddenly, they are attacked in the darkness. Jem is injured, but the assailant is pulled off of him by another person. Scout can barely see due to the confusion and her ham costume, but she hears a scuffle. Then, a familiar voice guides her home, and when they reach home, they find out that Jem's injuries are serious. Sheriff Tate arrives at the Finch house and explains that Bob Ewell had been killed during the scuffle. After thoroughly questioning Scout, it becomes apparent that Boo Radley was the unknown savior who rescued Jem and Scout from Bob Ewell, saving their lives. Scout, now realizing the truth about Boo, walks him back to his house and sees the world from his perspective for the first time.
