SWFL Eagles 5-17-24. F23 in the Nest Tree & at the Pond; The Herd + Pond & Pasture Life!

Описание к видео SWFL Eagles 5-17-24. F23 in the Nest Tree & at the Pond; The Herd + Pond & Pasture Life!

Video opens with F23 in the nest, having just finished eating a squirrel (video here:    • SWFL Eagles 5-17-24. F23 Braves the S...  . F23 moves to the veranda, feaks, then flies to the pond. She wades, gets sips, and watches the area before flying to the office oak. Later, F23 flies from the office oak back to the nest. Shrikes pester, and she moves to the veranda, then the attic. CamOps provides close-up views and close views. F23 rests one foot while perched on the attic, and adjusts her crop a few times (movement of the head/neck to adjust the contents of the crop). F23 preens her tail feathers, and a shrike tags her. F23 vocalizes, watches the area, then heads S/SE.

A note about Loggerhead Shrikes: This is their territory, just as it is the eagle's territory. The shrikes and other small birds pester eagles and other birds of prey to try to get them to move along. This effort by the small birds it about protecting their little families/nestlings/fledglings. Fledglings do not have good flight, often no flight to start, and are therefore vulnerable to predation. All small birds are justified in trying to protect their families (just as we protect our children). Link: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/L...

The rest of the video does not contain eagle footage. Coverage is from 5-16-24, and includes The Herd, a Great Blue Heron, a Muscovy Duck (beautiful close-up), and future choir members (juvenile starlings). Time stamps below, if interested. Click on any time stamp to advance to that part.
