The Capra is an intimate five-star, alpine luxury boutique lodge in a spectacular natural setting. There’s nowhere else in the world where so many 4,000 meter peaks are visible at a single glance. Saas-Fee's car-free Swiss ski resort is a favorite among winter sports connoisseurs for its long ski season, guaranteed high-quality snow, and authentic charm. By combining the cozy of a chalet with the comforts of a luxury hotel, The Capra’s understated elegance is inspired by the pure intensity of the alpine scenery. Expansive suites in warm earth tones have panoramic views of snow-frosted peaks, pristine valleys, and wide-open skies. The Capra is the ultimate place to relax, recharge, and reconnect with nature.
The fire-lit lounge, snug library, and delightful spa are designed to soothe your senses after a day of exhilarating alpine activities. Even more indulgent is the wholesome, farm-to-table cuisine found in the restaurant. The Capra has converted a traditional barn to a ski-in ski-out cabin that allows for carefree access to the ski pistes.
The Story of The Capra - With a strong desire to reconnect with nature, family, and friends and escape from the hectic lifestyle of the city, a few years ago, the new owners of The Capra set out to find their home away from home. After a long search for the right property, this group of friends, who all shared a love for the mountains and skiing, found the ideal, unspoiled setting high in the Swiss Alps. When they came to Saas-Fee, they fell in love with the village, and a new idea was born. Instead of creating a house, they decided to expand and share their vision with other people by converting a small traditional Swiss hotel into a chalet hotel that blends rustic charm with modern design. As well as transforming the hotel’s aesthetics, the owners have incorporated the healthy lifestyle synonymous with Swiss living and the “getting back to nature” ethos of the Saas Valley.
The owners’ attention to detail and quality of service exemplifies Switzerland’s unrivaled reputation for five-star hospitality. The story of the naming of The Capra is inspired by the Latin word for mountain goat and after the black and white goats that roam the valleys and peaks around Saas-Fee. Unique to the Valais region, these adventurous creatures reflect the hotel’s authentic sense of place and respect for the natural environment. The two-tone goats also embody the ying-yang, the holistic harmony between man and nature, mind and body, which is the hallmark of The Capra.
The Capra’s warm atmosphere is designed to complement the traditional village setting and dramatic alpine landscape.
Soothing colors, organic materials, and rich textures are inspired by nature, wood-paneled walls, brushed tweeds, stone bathrooms. Glowing log fires are reflected in crystal ceiling lights, evocative of the sparkling glaciers framed in floor-to-ceiling windows.
The hotel's design has been undertaken by a group of Swiss architects complemented by a UK interior design management team, focusing on fusing the alpine traditional character with modern luxury. All the furnishing has been designed bespoke, specifically for The Capra. The lighting concept was designed by a leading Swiss design team and is based on the theme “fire and ice,” in harmony with the contrasting environment, ensuring to enhance the hotel's relaxed atmosphere.
Traditional elements are seamlessly combined with the latest technology, from under-floor heating to wireless entertainment systems. The result is a timeless classic that captures the relaxed spirit of chalet luxury.
The Farm to the Table Philosophy - Dining at The Capra feels like home because it combines a love of detail with a sense of the essential. The Capra is naturally combining sustainability and gastronomy based on the love for good local food and wine. The fine dining, brasserie, and lounge menus follow a holistic & wellness approach, with all the actions focused on health and mindfulness, and use the resources carefully. Knowing where the product is being sourced and getting inspired by what surrounds us. Always aware that it needs good people to do amazing things, so they work so closely with the suppliers.
The inspiration for the menus begins at the doorstep, at the foot of some of the Swiss Alps' greatest mountains—the menu change with the season. The ingredients are sourced from suppliers and partners who share the same philosophy. Whether it’s vegetables or meat, using every product entirely. The Capra is always looking for quality, origin, and authenticity from farm to table.
