October 8, 2019 saw a significant event in the OK Club calendar take place. The Grade 12 and BY Classes of 2019 were presented with their OK ties in a moving ceremony that took place in front of School House. The Kingswood pupils lined the new Jubilee Pathway and applauded as Senior School Head, Mrs Tracy van Molendorff read out each name of the newest Old KIngswoodians as they processed up the pathway to be presented with their ties by OK Club Vice-president Mr Sid Meyer.

How significant it was to see these young men and women walking up the pathway on which the names of many Kingswoodians that have gone before them are etched. This, in a sense, passed the baton on to them to continue the example set by Old Kingswoodians over many generations who have in many ways gone the extra mile to ensure the future sustainability of this great school.

The leavers shook hands with College Head, Dr Colleen Vassiliou, before signing the leavers register. Thereafter they were presented with their OK ties by Mr Sid Meyer – the significance of this was that Dr Vassiliou bade them farewell from Kingswood and Mr Meyer welcomed to the next stage of their association with Kingswood as OKs. An added significance was that those pupils who have siblings or parents that are OKs were given the option of inviting these family members to accompany them in their walk up the pathway and then to be presented their ties by them.

At the conclusion of the tie presentation the leavers were addressed by past KC Head Girl Carissa Wilson (OK 1995) who is currently the Deputy Head at KC Junior. She urged them to stay connected with their Alma Mater and to “talk Kingswood up” as much as possible. She also urged them to support branch activities and to return to Kingswood to visit as often as possible. She said that it was her wish to have the Class of 2019 returning back to Kingswood one day to present their children with their OK ties.
