Ghilli Movie stars Vijay as a wannabe Kabaddi player who often earns the wrath of his father Ashish Vidyarthi for not being interested in his studies. Vijay goes to Madurai for a Kabaddi match without informing his parents. Vijay meets Trisha in Madurai who is running away from Prakash Raj when he forced Trisha to marry him. Vijay beats up Trisha and brings her to Chennai and keeps her in his own house. Prakash Raj follows them to Chennai and searches for Trisha. What happens next forms the crux of the story.

Ghilli Songs are composed by Vidyasagar. Ghilli Movie released to positive critical acclaim and became the highest grossing film at that time only to be surpassed later by Chandramukhi a year later. Ghilli Tamil Movie is the official remake of the telugu movie Okkadu starring Mahesh Babu and Bhoomika.
