A recent study by the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG), in collaboration with the Dubai Government Human Resources Department, has revealed that approximately 33 percent of Dubai government jobs are at high risk of disruption from generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), with clerical support roles identified as the most exposed.

The study, which surveyed 2,480 employees across 34 government entities, found that Gen AI could automate up to 24 percent of tasks in clerical roles alone. It also highlighted a widespread and growing use of AI in government departments 64 percent of surveyed employees already use Gen AI tools, primarily for content creation, strategy development, and data analysis.

“Training and upskilling is the key of the hour,” said researcher Keertana Subramani. Despite concerns over data privacy and AI bias, more than 80 percent of users reported significant time savings, while nearly half said AI tools boosted productivity and work quality.

Surprisingly, 48 percent of senior managers surveyed expressed no issue with employees using AI tools without disclosure reflecting the technology’s deep integration into daily workflows. However, challenges remain, especially around cultural representation and language inclusivity in widely used international AI models.

A separate MBRSG report on small and medium enterprises (SMEs) revealed that 99 percent are either using or exploring Gen AI, with key applications in marketing, customer service, and analytics. Yet, issues like limited access to affordable computing infrastructure and a regional talent shortage continue to hinder growth.

As SMEs make up 94 percent of UAE companies, experts stress that effective AI adoption is essential for the country’s long-term economic development.
