WILD Marble Sand Goby Fish Grow FAST!

The Marbled Sand Goby is a lesser-known freshwater fish species found here in Thailand. Over the last few years, we have caught several Marble Gobies of various sizes. Now, they are starting to appear in our new fishing lake.

The marble goby (Oxyeleotris marmorata) is a widely distributed species of fish in the family Butidae native to fresh & brackish waters of the Mekong & Chao Praya basins, as well as rivers and other water bodies in Cambodia (where it is called ត្រីដំរី "TreiDamrei"),

Thailand (where it is called ปลาบู่), Malaysia, Singapore, Indochina, the Philippines, & Indonesia.

It is among the largest gobioid fish, reaching a length of 65cm (26 in), though most do not exceed 30cm (12 in).

This Marble Goby is an economically important fish. It is sought after by local commercial fisheries and farms. It can also be found in the aquarium trade.

It is highly popular among the Chinese community due to its delicate texture and tasty white flesh, and it is believed to have healing properties.

It is said to be best eaten after surgeries or childbirth. In Malaysia, the commercialization of this type of fish is not widely established. Demands mainly depend on wild populations, thus fetching high prices in the market.

In Thailand, this species has been cited in the folk tale of Central Thailand's plā bū̀ thxng ("ปลาบู่ทอง"; golden goby) stories have been known as well, & were taken to create a television series & movies several times.
