MICRO ELECTRONICS ELECTRONIC BASEBALL 1978

Hello retro fans, today we are looking at one of the earliest Baseball themed electronic games ever released. Also one of the earliest electronic games ever released also. Is one of the most enjoyable sports themed electronic games I have played.

Micro Electronics Baseball was a re-creation in handheld form of all the fun of the actual sporting event. It even had the iconic music that accompanies the opening of every baseball game.

It makes use of a series of electric lights which light up various areas of the pitch such as the batting and pitching area, and the four bases. There are also score displays for Home and Visitor teams, and for innings.

The game was very advanced for the time, it even had the option of putting in a computer batter or pitcher to help you win the game if your opponent was better.

Game play is quite engaging. Basically you play the game using timing and skill. Each batter must time the motion of a light at the top of the pitch that races from left to right along a series of panels depicting, out, first base, second base, 3, and 4, and home run etc. The idea being to stop it on the home run or one of the base squares to score points. If this is achieved your little man runs round the field to the corresponding base. The idea being to get your man home to earn points the same way as in baseball.

Each player has a number of players and innings, and game passes from player 1 the Home team, to player 2 the Visitor team once a set number of innings have been played, or when all players are caught out.

It is a very enjoyable game, it is on a par with much later LCD games that were baseball themed. It is an amazing unit considering is nearly fifty years old now. Well worth picking up, and great in two player mode.

I couldn't believe how advanced it was for its age.
