The proper supply of engine oil is very important for the efficient working of the engine. When the oil is leaked, it starts to decrease immediately. Engine oil leaks can cause a variety of problems and symptoms, many of which can negatively affect your vehicle's performance.

Symptoms of An Engine Oil Leak

1) Dark Puddles Under Your Car
The dark puddles under your car are one of the clear symptoms of an engine oil leak. While driving your vehicle, be vigilant for yellow or dark brown puddles.

2) Poor Engine Performance
Insufficient lubrication due to an oil leak can lead to increased friction and wear on engine components. This can result in decreased engine performance, such as reduced power, rough idling, or misfires.

3) Oil Light
When the oil light starts to illuminate on your vehicle dashboard, it is a very important warning that you should not overlook. It indicates that the oil level or pressure in your engine is too low.

4) Smoke from the Engine Bay
When oil leaks onto hot parts of the engine or the exhaust system, it can cause smoke as the oil burns off. This may be seen as smoke rising from under the hood while the vehicle is running.

5) Blue Smoke from the Exhaust
If oil is leaking into the combustion chamber of the engine, it can be burned along with the fuel. This causes a blue or gray smoke to come out of the vehicle's exhaust.

6) Low Oil Levels
If you are regularly having to top up your engine oil outside of normal oil change intervals, this could indicate an oil leak.

Causes of Oil Leak Under Your Car

1) Bad Oil Filter
A bad oil filter is one of the major causes of an oil leak. Although it is not a frequent occurrence, the filter housing can sustain damage, leading to leaks.

2) Faulty Gasket
Gasket controls the flow of oil during its pumping throughout the engine. However, over time, these gaskets can degrade or get damaged, leading to oil leaks. Similarly, seals used to keep oil inside can wear out and start leaking.

3) Excessive Amount of Oil
If you put too much oil in your engine, the excess oil could be pushed out through seals and other components, causing leaks.

4) Damaged Oil Pan Damage
The oil pan, located at the bottom of the engine, can get damaged from road debris, leading to leaks. Similarly, the oil pan gasket can fail over time, causing a leak.

5) Cracked Engine Block
Cracks in the engine block can result from overheating, impact damage, or freezing. If the engine block or oil cooler cracks, oil can leak out.

6) Valve Cover Leaks
The valve cover protects the valve train components and keeps oil from escaping as it lubricates these parts. As the gasket ages, it may become hard, brittle, and ineffective at sealing, allowing oil to leak out onto the top of the engine.

7) Incorrect Oil Type
If the oil used in the engine is too thin, it can pass through small spaces that thicker oil cannot, leading to leaks.
