Thousands of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip marked the national Prisoner's Day in support for hundreds of prisoners imprisoned in Israeli jails.
Around 1,500 of prisoners have begun an open ended hunger strike Monday morning, protesting Israeli prisons authority measures and calling for a number of demands including a public telephone, increased family visitations and ending what they described as “medical negligence policy” towards inmates.
The Palestinian Prisoners Club, Palestine Liberation Organization Detainees Affairs Commission announced that a series of public activities are to be carried out during the day to express solidarity with nearly 7,000 Palestinian and Arab prisoners behind the bars in Israel.
Several hundred responded to calls to hold solidarity demonstrations and activities in city centers, hoping to raise the morale of the striking prisoners.
