2024 AustralAsia Handgun Championship | IPSC Level 4 match | Open Division | Crixian Diago

Full match video of the 2024 AustralAsia Handgun Championships. The event was held from August 20th to September 1st, with the handgun match commencing on the 26th August. This AustralAsia match was held in Bali, Indonesia and was hosted by Pecatu Shooting Club.

Upon arrival I had a short amount of time to acclimatise before the match, from the chill and cold weather of Adelaide Australia to the more tropical climate. I was very eager for the first day of the match with high hopes. I competed in open division with my custom built Victor Precision open gun chambered in 38 super. I ran 1 170mm SPS magazine with 2 140mm SPS magazines.

Unfortunately the use of match ammo has resulted in a heap of malfunctions mainly on the big stages which really hurt my standings by a lot. Out of desperation I set my open gun up for max reliability set up rather than the set up which performed nicer. I sacrificed the performance set up to prioritize reliability but still was riddled with jams.

On the first, second and fourth day my match was riddled with malfunctions. only on the third day was when I didn't encounter any jams. this was also the day in which I snagged some stage wins when I had equipment which worked haha.

The thing which has boggled me is the fact I had many malfunctions despite running a heavier recoil spring, a 20lb main spring, extended firing pin and a lightened cut down firing pin spring. I still encountered the random light strikes and weird malfunctions I haven't encountered before with my own ammo. We suspect it to be the match ammunition. 4 of our boxes had a lot of mould in the box which may indicate possible moisture contamination.

the match ammo I have noticed to leave a lot of unburnt powder even after 60 rounds, the gun was caked with powder. some of this powder got in the disconnector channel preventing function of the trigger. I had to tell the RO to move me down as I pulled the gun to pieces. I then shot a large stage as soon as I put the gun back together and messed up big time due to this rush.

Despite this I managed a ranking of13th Overall at 93%

Lesson learned, never to use match ammo no matter what, always bring your own ammo to big matches. Along with this ill be building 2 new identical open guns a "match gun" and a "practice gun"
