Dawless deep melodic and progressive house w. SE-02, JX-08, Microfreak, Volca FM & Model:Samples

Recently I decided to upgrade my synth rig by replacing my beloved Model D with the Roland SE-02. The main reason? Well, the SE-02 lets me save patches plus has some interesting modulation capabilities. I will be keeping the D because it sounds gorgeous, fat and buttery, but for the most of the jams, I think I'll be using the SE-02.

Anyway, this is my first jam with the SE-02 which, as you guessed it, is in charge of the bass. In some parts of the track, I open up it's filter to make it growl a bit more. I run it through the NTS-1 with the MVF-22 filter installed (user MOD effect), which is configured as a high pass filter to remove the low end in some parts of the song. I control it with one of the Keystep Pro's encoders in control mode. I'm also using the stock NTS-1 reverb at the end of the jam, also controlled by an encoder on the KSP. Regarding the JX-08, as always, it is in bi-timbral mode. I also like to play with the JX filter a lot, but it's a bit more trickier because if you change the filter value for one of the parts and then switch to the other part, and also tweak the filter, it may cause a sudden jump, so care must be taken. One of the tricks is to use the filter cutoff slider for one of the parts and VCF envelope amount knob for the other part, in patches where the desired effect can be achieved. Regarding the Microfreak, I'm using it as a lead synth running through the Zoom CDR pedal. All the before mentioned synths are sequenced with the KSP. Because the KSP has only 4 tracks, I had to improvise on the Volca FM with some sporadic notes. You can't see the Volca from the angle from which the video was taken, but you can see me playing the notes. The Volca FM also runs through the same CDR pedal as the Microfreak, so the pedal is shared between the two. Finally, the Model:Samples acts as a drum machine with some vocal samples and short chords.

Oh, and I almost forgot, the SE-02 and the JX-08 go through the Alesis Nanocompressor which is sidechained to the Model:Samples. I actually like the ducking/pumping effect of the compressor when the kick is present.
