Conrail & Rio Grande Survivors on the Hartwell Railroad

In March 2024, I spent a couple days chasing the elusive Hartwell Railroad in northeastern Georgia. My goal was to catch some fallen flag power and I certainly wasn't let down. HRT 1973, an ex-Conrail GP38 still wearing its iconic blue paint, and HRT 3044, an old rusty Rio Grande GP35 were the highlights of my visit to the railroad. Combined with the Hartwell's diverse roster, its sometimes grassy former SOU trackage made for some neat scenes during our chase. Sit back, relax, and enjoy some classic shortline action along the Hartwell!
