Uncle Saint Jerome Is A Gangster We've Never Seen Before | Thinking Black Character Analysis

Описание к видео Uncle Saint Jerome Is A Gangster We've Never Seen Before | Thinking Black Character Analysis

Uncle Jerome Saint is one of the most popular characters on FX’s Snowfall. He’s a lover and a fighter, a jheri-curled, ultra macho, bench-pressing throwback to the tough guys of 80’s. He’s a stylish, charismatic gangster that is as selfless as he is ferocious. If you judged him by his big frame and masculinity, it’d be understandable if you felt that Uncle Jerome was just another TV gangster But when you take a deeper look it becomes clear that Uncle Jerome’s character is different. Because unlike the gangster we typically see who exemplify toxic masculinity, Uncle Jerome is a progressive gangster. He’s an old school criminal with a new school mindset and analyzing his character will teach us a lot about toxic masculinity, positive masculinity and how to not confuse the two. And that matters because there should be no room for the former and more room for the latter but we’ll never get there if we don’t know what we’re talking about .
